Jabberwocky Reimagined: In honor of Eric Malzkuhn (“Malz”)
One year ago at this time, a great Deaf man, Eric Malzkuhn passed away. He was a great teacher, actor, friend and human being. Over 50 years ago, he translated the poem “Jabberwocky” into ASL, unwittingly identifying principles of ASL that no one knew or realized at that time. In his memory, I have created a re-imagining of the poem as he might have signed it if he had created it today, knowing what we know now about ASL. Malz was a creative genius and pioneer of ASL, and he will truly be missed by us all.
