Do you have the source where it says that the 2010 census form will include question on languages as used by people? I ask the question because there is nothing on the 2010 census form as shown at http://2010.census.gov/2010census/how/interactive-form.php and http://2010.census.gov/2010census/pdf/2010_Questionnaire_Info.pdf that pertains to language.

One key important thing about the 2010 census form is that people are allowed to select more than one race. I encourage people who want to make their more than one race known to state more than one race. This will give the multiracial people a little more visibility.

    JPR –

According to the link you sent, there does not seem to be any questions about language that I can see either, but that is a pretty standard question that they have been asking for a long time, and I see no reason why it would be discontinued now, since that is an important demographical statistic for our country.

Your proposal makes logical sense that we should be seeing ASL as one of the language lists not sign language since it includes English-supported signs which are modes, not a language. In addition, we should sign a petition to ensure that ASL is published as one of the checklist under language to make our voices heard.

    Hi Barb –

I think it’s too late to get it on the current census (although it should have been there already, if NAD was doing their job…), but it is definitely something that we should try to work on for 2020.
